Gas Division Contribution Notice - Bicentennial Celebrations

Notice Regarding Jackson Energy Authority's Gas Division Sponsorship of the Bicentennial Celebrations for the City of Jackson and Madison County

Madison County and the City of Jackson will celebrate their bicentennials respectively in 2021 and 2022. The commemoration will begin in August of 2021 and will celebrate 200 years of history, growth, and progress in our community. A series of monthly events during the yearlong celebration will seek to increase community awareness, inclusion and economic development within Jackson and Madison County. The goal is to celebrate the past, but also set the stage for the future with involvement by citizens, community leaders, educators, businesses, religious leaders and government officials.  Understanding the multifaceted role of JEA in support of community and economic development, JEA’s Board of Directors approved a resolution at the January 27, 2022 meeting to support the Bicentennial Celebration goals.

The Board of Directors has determined that the natural gas utility division has sufficient revenue to satisfy all obligations as required by Tennessee Code Annotated, § 7-34-115(a). Under the authority of Tennessee Code Annotated, § 7-34-115(a)(2), $36,400 of JEA’s Gas Division revenue will be appropriated for the sponsorship of the Jackson Madison County Bicentennial Celebration for community and economic development purposes. The Gas Division’s customer rates will not be raised in order to fund this economic development effort.
