Green Power

Harness the Power of Nature

Landfill Wind Solar

Jackson Energy Authority is offering customers the opportunity to participate in the Tennessee Valley Authority’s Green Power Switch Program. Green Power is electricity generated by renewable and cleaner energy resources.

Green power costs more because the technology used to produce it is still more expensive than traditional power-generating methods. Investing in the Green Power Switch program is an investment in tomorrow. For example, an investment of an extra $8 per month on your electric bill buys enough green power to equal the environmental benefits of planting an acre of trees in the Tennessee Valley.

Here's how it works...
Green Power is produced from three renewable energy sources.
1. Wind turbines capture the wind to create energy.
2. Methane gas, which consists mainly of methane and carbon dioxide, is produced when organic wastes in landfill sites decay.
3. Solar energy is generated by photovoltaic systems, which consist of semiconductor cells that convert sunlight into electricity.

Making the switch to green power is easy...
You can invest in the Green Power Switch Program by purchasing green power in 150-kilowatt-hour blocks (about 12 percent of a typical household’s monthly use).
Each block you sign up to purchase will add $4 to your monthly electric bill. The green power you buy will be produced by wind, solar or landfill gas energy and will be added to the Tennessee Valley Authority’s total power grid.
