Jackson enjoys very high quality drinking water – a water quality that is much better than required by state and federal regulatory agencies.

Deep wells pump the water from an underground aquifer to two water filtration plants, which treat the water supply before it reaches your home. (Jackson Energy Authority's water is fluoridated.)

The water plants produce about 16 million gallons of water each day and have a capacity to produce more than 25 million gallons a day. A network of water mains, elevated tanks and pumping stations provide good pressure and fire flow throughout the city. The City of Jackson maintains a Class 3 fire rating.

The operation and maintenance of the water system is rated as one of the best in the nation. The Tennessee Department of Environment annually has rated he Energy Authority’s water system with grades from 98 to a perfect 100. EPA’s Region IV, comprised of eight states, awarded our water system its “2000 Safe Drinking Water Act Excellence Award.”

Laboratory tests are performed continually to insure that the highest quality water is produced for the community. Our 2004 Consumer Confidence Report gives a detailed look at Jackson Energy Authority's water supply.
