The Comfort of Gas Jackson Energy Authority supplies natural gas to more than 28,000 customers in Jackson and parts of Madison County. Our natural gas comes from oil and gas fields in Louisiana and the Gulf of Mexico and travels by pipeline to the western edge of JEA's service area. Natural gas enters JEA's system at four gate stations and reaches customers by way of more than 500 miles of gas main. Our natural gas has an average content of 1,025 Btu per cubic foot. The distribution pressures range from four ounces to 410 pounds per square inch. To get the best price for our gas, JEA created Tennergy in 1995 to buy natural gas and manage the supply and transportation of the gas for JEA and other public utilities and major industries. In 1998, Tennergy incorporated so it could more easily buy and manage other energy supplies and better serve its growing list of customers. We make house calls: Gas Rates: JEA can supply firm natural gas service to retail
customers under a "declining block" rate per Ccf (100 cubic
feet). The majority of larger industrial gas customers, however, choose
to purchase "interruptible" gas. This rate includes a commodity
charge per Ccf and a peak-day demand charge. Customers also can receive
full transportation service for -firm or interruptible customer-owned
gas. Customers may purchase 100 percent of their requirements from "spot
market" or long-term suppliers. Jackson Energy Authority offers no
sales back-up for this service.
