Tisdal Place Progress : HVAC

Tisdal Place HVAC system
The new HVAC system is key to the energy efficiency of Tisdal Place. The American Standard HVAC system from McCoy's Heating and Air is a five-ton, dual-compressor, ten-zone unit. You can have ten different temperatures in ten different areas of the home at any one time. A similar-sized home built today would require a seven-ton unit. The Tisdal home, meanwhile, will be able to heat and cool the same amount of space with less tonnage because of other energy-efficiency features, including an insulation upgrade, increased efficiency of the windows and the efficiency rating of this type of unit. The worker in the picture is installing duct work in the sun room for the new unit.

Zoning a building for temperature control often is used in commercial buildings, but it is uncommon in homes because of the initial expense. Some homeowners, however, are installing this technology because of the energy savings. The HVAC technology being installed at Tisdal Place allows the homeowner to control his heating and cooling throughout the home over the Internet, meaning you can change temperatures at home from your computer at work. The central unit sends signals to damper motors throughout the system to open and close depending on the temperature you would like in a particular room.

The HVAC system also includes the installation of Healthy Climate germicidal lights in the duct work. These lights use ultraviolet rays of light to help reduce the amount of pollutants in the air, including mold, bacteria and viruses.
