JEA's EPlus Broadband Wins National Award

Press Release: Tuesday, September 13, 2005

For Immediate Release ---

Jackson Energy Authority [JEA] was today named "The Best Fiber-To-The-Home Public Utility Network" in the nation by Broadband Properties magazine and the FOCUS [Fiber Optic Communities of the United States] ORGANIZATION during the Broadband Properties Summit located in Dallas, Texas.

On hand to make the Cornerstone Awards presentation to JEA was Matt Kisber, Commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development [ECD].

“JEA's fiber-to-the-home network has positioned the Jackson community to fully participate in the new information economy and has helped to secure its future as a wired community,” Kisber stated.

Kisber also recognized JEA as the first “triple-play network” in Tennessee, the largest in the nation, and the first cable television operator in the country to offer all-digital channel line-up.

In receiving the award, Kim Kersey, Senior Vice President of Telecommunications at JEA, stated “the success of our system [EPlus Broadband] can be credited to the dedicated work of JEA employees and the tremendous support of the Jackson community.”

Kersey also paid tribute to the vision of John W. Williams [President and CEO of JEA] in leading the development of this “award-winning system.”

Broadband Properties Summit is the only annual conference and exposition focused on the successful delivery of the “Triple Play” of cable, broadband, digital video and voice services to communities.
