Isaac Lane Elementary Makes History with Television Studio

Press Release:

For Immediate Release ---

"The media is so much a part of their lives," said Martha Britt (Principal for Isaac Lane Technology Magnet Elementary School) as she explained the addition of the television and video production to her school's curriculum.

Isaac Lane Television (IL- TV) is Jackson Madison County School System's (JMCSS) only student led television news operation which houses state of the art studio equipment and will have students in every field of an actual news station from directors and anchors to reporters, camera operators and graphic designers.

Three advisors lead this 2 nd - 4 th grade broadcast/video production project: Connie Vincent and Tisa Day (Magnet Facilitators) and Jonathan Normet (Technology Facilitator). The students were chosen thru auditions and are being taught through areas like producing and reporting local and national news, framing scenes, interviewing techniques, as well as how to use production equipment to edit shows.

Isaac Lane was one of the Jackson Madison County schoo Is to receive a multi-million dollar grant over 3 years to enhance magnet programming. With IL being a newer school, technology was already in the forefront for their curriculum.

Britt looked for other ways to bring "a world of opportunity to our children" - thus came the television studio. IL teachers and Jackson Energy Authority EPlusTV staff traveled to Kansas to view their student television project then returned to order the necessary equipment to begin making history.

Practicing 2-3 times weekly, the IL- TV News Staff is preparing to air their first 30 minute show LIVE in their new television studio on 746 Lexington Avenue.

The show will air LIVE Wednesday November 2nd at 1:30pm and will be followed by an Ambassador Ribbon Cutting, press conference and refreshments will be served.

"Our students and parents are committed to this endeavor to bring i excellent children's programming to all of our viewers," Britt added.

This is one of the monthly shows the IL- TV News Staff will produce to be shown on EPlusTV Channel 6.
