General Service Questions
When will service be available in my area?
We have a construction schedule that will generally show when service will be available in different areas of town. Customers will be notified by JEA prior to when construction will occur in their neighborhood. Please call Customer Service for further information at 731.422.7500.
How do I get or sign up for service?
When service is available in your area, you will be notified by mail or by a personal visit from a JEA representative to explain service options. We will also be able to take service requests by calling our Customer Service office 422-7500 or visiting us at our offices at 119 E. College or at the Customer Center in The Columns.
I’m a JEA customer. Why can’t I get service?
Services initially will be available to customers who reside inside JEA’s current electric service area. This is due to our fiber facilities being attached to electric poles. Later we plan to expand service beyond our electrical area.
Do customers have to have an existing account relationship with JEA to obtain broadband service?
Yes, since we bill customers on their existing JEA utility bill, one requirement is that services for broadband be applied for by the account of record for existing utilities.
After I place my order, how long will it take to get service?
We anticipate most orders to be completed within 7 days. Many will occur well inside this timeframe. The timing will depend primarily upon when the service is requested, weather restrictions, any additional wiring requirements as well as issues related to transferring your local telephone number if telephone service is included. Our customer service representatives will keep you apprised of scheduling to assure we meet your specific needs at the time you requested service.
When can I place my order?
JEA will contact you by mail or a personal visit shortly before service is available in your neighborhood. However, we will be happy to take your name and place you on our list of interested customers to make sure you are contacted as soon as services are available in your area.
Will I have to sign a contract?
JEA doesn’t require contracts for regular monthly services. Deeply discounted packages may require participation commitments to secure lower rates.
Phone
Do I have to change phone numbers?
No. You will be able to keep your same phone number with your new service or receive a new number. This is the choice of the customer.

Will you have Video on Demand?

Internet
How fast will Internet be?
The different speeds are an indication of how fast your Internet files are downloaded from one computer to another over the Internet. Speeds are measured in the form of Kilobits and Megabits per second. A typical dialup modem can achieve download speeds between 28.8 and 56 Kilobits per second, or 28 Kb to 56 Kb (also abbreviated as 28K to 56K). Dial-up modem speeds are very slow compared to the 4 different broadband speeds that EPlus Broadband offers. Currently we offer speeds of 512 Kbps, 4 Mbps, 6 Mbps, and 10 Mbps.
What's
upload vs. download?
The download speed is the measure
of how fast the cable modem can download a file from the Internet.
The upload speed is the measure of speed from your computer
to the Internet. Currently, EPlus Broadband has 4 different
download speeds: 512 Kbps, 4 Mbps, 6 Mbps, and 10 Mbps. Upload speeds are as follows: 256 Kbps, 384 Kbps, 512 Kbps, and 1 Mbps.
How do I figure out which speed is right for me?
Good question
- If you're a light Internet user, meaning you only use the Internet to check email and browse the web on occasion, then our 512 Kbps package is the right fit for you.
- If you're an everyday user of the Internet who checks email frequently, browses the web a lot, or if you have more than one computer accessing the Internet, then the 4 Mbps connection is your best choice.
- If you're a heavy user of the Internet, access multimedia sites that play streaming audio and video, have several computers on a network, or if you participate in on-line gaming, the 6 or 10 Mbps connection is the perfect fit for you.
Do you have a block for the Internet that keeps kids from going to inappropriate sites?
With the purchase of Internet service you get the Internet Security Suite FREE. The ISS package includes virus protection, firewall security, privacy management: anti-spyware, pop-up blocker, and ad blocker, plus parental controls.
If you are interested in additional protection, there are multiple software programs available on the market which offer monitoring, blocking and filtering of chat sessions, email, web sites and search requests. A list of filtering and parental control programs can be found at www.safekids.com
Will you offer packages?
Yes. JEA has surveyed our customers and used this information to create packages designed to meet our customers' needs.
Will I have to have new wires in my house for internet?
Our high speed internet services will require the installation of CAT5 WIRING which is just about the size of telephone wiring. Our service personnel will install this during the installation of your order. Your computer must currently have or be capable of accepting a network card to receive the speeds we will offer. (CAT 5 is the wire from your wall and the network card is the device where the wire attaches to your computer.) No modem will be required to receive JEA's Internet services.
Are there any minimum PC requirements?
Most PC's will be capable of achieving the minimum requirements of our system. If you have any questions our personnel are capable of advising you regarding your computers specific requirements.

When did construction begin?
We began construction on many of our primary facilities in January 2004. The buildout into specific areas to cover our electric service area occurred over 18 months.
