Energy Rates Are Down For JEA Customers

Press Release: Thursday, November 9, 2006

Jackson Energy Authority has announced that going into the winter months their customers will benefit from a reduction in energy rates….nearly $25 a month for the average residential customer. “That’s a 7 ½% reduction,” says Charlie Crockarell, JEA Senior Vice President of the Gas Division.

Even though rates have gone down, Crockarell stresses customers to still CONSERVE this winter and take the necessary precautions to make sure heating costs stay down.

“Last year was 5% warmer than normal…hopefully we’ll have another mild winter so consumption and rates will stay down and the overall cost of heating will be less.”

When asked why natural gas rates are reduced, Crockarell says “…it boils down to the fact that currently supply exceeds demand due to a mild summer, record storage levels and no hurricane activity in the production area…” The lower natural gas rates will go into effect December 1, 2006 and electric rates have already been reduced October 1st of this year.
